Heredia, Costa Rica. Thursday, October 3, 2019. Seven years ago, the multinational company VMware started operations in Costa Rica with just five employees. Today, it has more than 665 direct jobs and plans to open 130 positions in the near future.
The company made the announcement this Thursday in an event that gathered the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez; the Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications, Luis Adrián Salazar; and the CINDE’s Managing Director, Jorge Sequeira.
Founded in 1998 in Palo Alto, California, VMware is recognized as a global leader in cloud computing, security, networking and virtualization solutions. The company has about 24 thousand employees worldwide.
From America Free Zone, in Heredia, VMware has one of the largest and most strategic global centers, from where they manage multifunctional processes to regional and local operations. The company will expand its operation in Costa Rica due to the excellent business climate found in the country, along with top class human talent and the ability for employees to permeate the company's values.
Carlos Páez, Director of Global Sales and Country Manager for VMware Costa Rica, said: “In seven years, VMware has grown exponentially, not only in headcount, but also in the complexity and responsibilities of the new roles. This has been possible thanks to the diversity, flexibility, and learning absorption of Costa Rican human talent”.
“Costa Rica is a strategic location for VMware, especially because of its talent sophistication and the large number of processes that are developed locally and delivered to global markets,” added Daniel Bolaños, who also serves as VMware Costa Rica Country Manager and Chief Financial Officer.
Among the requirements to work in VMware, English speaking is a must, as well as demonstrating experience in areas such as: finance, customer service, quality assurance, project management, human resources, and sales operations. Roles available include process design, data management and analysis, planning and reporting.
Carlos Alvarado, President of Costa Rica, reaffirmed his Government's commitment to strengthening the country’s competitive conditions “so that current and future investments can continue expanding their operations and generating employment, just as VMWare did today.”
"We are confident in our ability to create opportunities for growth and development in a professional and innovative environment," the President added, highlighting human capital, legal security and stability as some of the factors that encourage foreign investment in Costa Rica.
In addition, the Minister of Foreign Trade, Dyalá Jiménez, commented: “The establishment of VMware in the country consolidates our confidence in our human talent and in business environment conditions. We hope that together we can continue working as allies to generate more and better opportunities for Costa Ricans”.
“The VMware Costa Rica operation is the most diversified outside the United States. From here, more than 17 service units are developed, including: marketing, sales, technical support, IT, project management, analytic and business intelligence with Research and Development. This is a reflection of the Costa Rican human talent potential and how the country moves towards this wide range of industry 4.0 disciplines, ” said Jorge Sequeira, Managing Director of CINDE.
Among the 665 VMware Costa Rica employees is Denver Palmer, who emphasizes his professional growth in the company as an example of personal and corporate success: “I started in technical support 5 years ago. Since then, I've had opportunities to develop professionally. Today I work in a position with greater challenges, bigger expectations and multiple responsibilities. I feel enormously proud that my suggestions and recommendations are taken into consideration in my VMware career. The company has a very special DNA embedded in its culture and the adequate environment to express opinions and ideas.”
VMware offers its employees a competitive compensation package in accordance with the job position, with great possibilities for career development and professional growth.
