• Only Costa Rican citizens and residents can enter the country during the temporary ban.
• Classes are suspended at private and public schools and high schools.

San José, Costa Rica. March 16th, 2020. The Costa Rican government declared today a state of emergency and announced additional measures to curb the spread of Covid-19. A temporary travel restriction will apply for foreigners from 23:59 hours of Wednesday, March 18th, 2020 to 23:59 hours of Sunday, April 12th, 2020.

The ban includes any entry by sea, air, or land. However, air transport, commerce, and supplies crews are exempted from this provision.

Those Costa Rican citizens and residents who enter during this period will carry out a mandatory 14-day quarantine. This will be instructed by a sanitary order from immigration officials, who are legitimized as a sanitary authority.

The government also suspended classes in public and private schools and high schools, as well as INA training centers, from March 17th to April 4th. They will return to lessons on April 13th, right after Easter.
